Since websites are accessed more often now on mobile devices, having a mobile-friendly template using Responsive Web Design (RWD), that adjusts or “responds” according to the screen size, makes it easy to view text, photography, and video on all size screens (desktops, laptops, smartphones, tablets). Google recommends using RWD over other design patterns. One of the benefits of RWD is that you’ll only need to maintain one version of your site instead of two (desktop and mobile version).

Google recommends having your website hosted on a Content Management System (CMS) such as WordPress. This is the software I use since it is a free and open-source blogging tool allowing you to easily manage websites and blogs from anywhere. The design and function can be customized to include image galleries and slideshows, sharing pages (on social media and email), a search box to find any text or images on the site, and create password-protected pages to share private information with clients.

Also, I create HTML/CSS websites using Dreamweaver (the old-school, design-design way).

Is your website Google search and Mobile-friendly?

Take the Google Mobile-Friendly Test.

Did your website pass the test?

Google’s Search Algorithm ranks mobile-friendly websites higher in results.

A page is eligible for the “mobile-friendly” label if it meets the following criteria:

  • Avoids software that is not common on mobile devices, like Flash
  • Uses text that is readable without zooming
  • Sizes content to the screen so users don’t have to scroll horizontally or zoom
  • Places links far enough apart so that the correct one can be easily tapped
